What a pleasure it was to be quilting at Annette’s on Wednesday. Outside it was hideously hot but we were lucky enough to be in the cool while enjoying the leafy outlook from her living room. Annette did NO quilting but spent the day waiting on us all with cups of tea and coffee and a spectular cake to celebrate Elizabeth’s birthday.

Her contribution to the day was to bring out this old quilt top that has been in her cupboard for about 20 years

It reminds me of Gees Bend quilts. The fabrics seem to have been placed at random, the backgrounds and borders are different and so are the sashings. It’s stitched quite crudely and doesn’t lie flat.

Annette’s not sure what she will do with it yet.

Another of Annette’s is this appliqué quilt top that she has recently finished. It’s her version of a pattern of Irene Blanck’s.

Bronwen put the last quilting stitch in Jenny’s  ‘Alice in Wonderland’ quilt and ….. speaking of finishing things….. I’ve taken advantage of the hot weather and washed this little beauty which was covered with pencil marks because I had so many goes at quilting the border before I finally got it right. I glad to report that it washed beautifully, all the pencil marks have disappeared and the small amount of quilting that is needed to finish it will not require any pencil markings. The end is in sight.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this latest news update because I have posted this under great difficulty. Yesterday I dropped my iPad and shattered the screen. Hopefully it will be fixed tomorrow but in the meantime I’m using it very carefully.               Till next time, Frances
