In January of 2013 many of us took up the challenge to make a star a day for a year. It turned out to be an impossible task in reality but we still managed to make lots of stars- just not one each day.

At the recent Eastwood Patchwork Quilters Exhibition there were four of these Star quilts finished and hanging for everyone to see. What an achievement!

Annette placed her stars on the diagonal and had the quilt machine quilted with a Baptist Fan pattern- very appropriate- and it looks wonderful.

This one belongs to Frances Thurmer. Even more amazingly each star is about 2 inches. It has also been quilted by machine.

Like Frances, Rosemary Handler made hers a medallion quilt and had it machine quilted. Her stars are 4 inches and the background of each one is a different shirting. So much to see.

Lorna turned her quilt into a family memento. Last year, after the death of her mother she decided to make the star quilt in memory of her parents and her family.

In the centre she has embroidered the names of her father and her mother inside two interlocking circles and above them, her family name in Chinese.

Around the edge there are seven stars which have been outlined and really stand out. These represent Lorna and her six sisters and in each of the blue counter panes she has embroidered the names of all the members of her family. In the centre she has written The power of LOVE shines within these stars.
