In 1985 a second friendship group was formed from the remaining members of the Wednesday group. They had seen how the other group functioned and thought that they would like to do the same thing. It is this group that has endured for the last 30 years and is still making quilts each month. This is the group that is called ‘Just Friends’.

They met at night because some of the members were working during the day. In fact we still meet on a weeknight for the same reason. While many of us have retired now Pam, Judith and Sandra are still working and so we continue with night meetings.

From the beginning Pam kept records of everyone’s quilts and it is thanks to her that we are able, 30 years later to recount those early years and thanks to Judith we have some photos as well.

The group began with nine members. Toni belonged to the Wednesday group and brought along her sister Jacqui and Pam introduced her next door neighbour, Judith. Together with Annette, Sue, Josie, Robynne and Ros they began with a group of nine. They followed the same organisation as the other friendship group, each month a name would be selected and that person would hand out the instructions for their block the following month until everyone had a turn and then  it would start all over again.

As you can see many of our photos are of the quilt blocks laid out on the floor on the night that they were handed over. I don’t have photos of these quilts finished but I hope that I will be able to show them to you at a later date.
