1988 was my first year in the ‘Just Friends’ friendship group. That year we made 11 quilts. Let’s see if I can find photos of most of them for you.

Annette asked for Wreaths of Red and Green. She received some remarkable, original blocks but to my knowledge she has never finished the quilt, mainly because she lost several of the blocks. She thinks she probably dropped them in the gutter one night as she was getting out of the car and never saw them again. After that her enthusiasm waned somewhat and she hadn’t the heart to remake them to finish the quilt.

For Pam we made Blue and White Feathered Stars. She gave each of us the fabric for the white background and we each supplied the blue for the star. It took quite a few years before the quilt was finished. Finally, her daughter Amy quilted it for her and it now hangs above the staircase in Pam’s home.

And for for my first quilt with ‘Just Friends’ I chose a scrap strip quilt made on a newspaper foundation. The only stipulation was that there was a 2 inch strip of red across the centre.
