When I look at the photos from the early days I am always reminded of how far we have all come in our quilting journey. Many of our first quilts were samplers and quite dull colours. None of us would dream of asking the group for a sampler these days – we have much more exciting things to make and our quilts demonstrate a lively and innovative use of colour and pattern. We have made and seen so many quilts in the 30 years since we started. We have all been to many exhibitions and seen so many of each other’s quilts that we find it hard to find a quilt that really surprises us these days.

The quilts that follow are from the years 1985 to 1987. Our record keeping has always been a bit hit and miss so it is thanks to Judith that I am able to share these with youimage image image

This quilt belonging to Jose is one of my all time favourites. She quilted all the blue counter panes with a spider web which linked the quilting as well as the pieced design.

Sandra joined the group in 1987 and is still with us today. This is her first quilt, a Melon Patch in blues. Last year she made another quilt of the same pattern but this time using warm oranges and yellows.

This is Annette’s second quilt with the group and now belongs to her son Drew. After all these years it still looks fresh and bright. Drew loves his mum’s quilts and has really looked after this one.
